The Malmsbury Mail invites budding writers of all ages to submit all manner of written short stories, memoirs, poetry and prose for The Davy Writer’s Prize, 2024/25.
Categories
Cash prizes will be awarded to the four prize winning entries:
Adult Category - first prize: $200
Adult Category – second prize: $100
Teen Category (13 - 18 years old) – first prize: $150
Children’s Category (up to 12 years old) – first prize: $50.
Plus, a $100 book voucher from Squishy Minnie Bookshop, Kyneton for the children’s section.
All writing genres are accepted and winners will be published in the Autumn 2025 edition of the Malmsbury Mail.
How to enter
Submit your document as an attached file (your name must not be visible in the document) in an email (subject line: The Davy Prize) with your name, phone number to malmsburymail@yahoo.com.au

Terms and Conditions of Entry:
Writers may submit up to 3 entries each.
Must be the original work of the writer submitting.
Submissions must have been completed within the last 2 years.
Submissions must not have won any other writing awards.
Word limit is 2,500 words max
Works must not have the writer's name visible anywhere on the submission – anonymous entries only accepted. Entry form must be included when writing is submitted.
Entries open on 1 December 2024 and must be received by 5pm on 31 January 2025.

Edward Davy (1806 – 1885) was an English physician, scientist, and inventor who played a pivotal role in the development of the electric telegraph. He was an also an author and after leaving the UK, moved to Australia where he became a farmer, editor of the Adelaide Telegraph and 3-time Mayor of Malmsbury, Victoria.
